Il Divo (Paolo Sorrentino, 2008)

7/10
I think knowing more about Italy & its politics would've helped as I got lost pretty easily at times. It's hard to believe someone like Giulio Andreotti even exists though. He's like a cartoon character.

The Limits of Control (Jim Jarmusch, 2009)

7.5/10
Not an easy watch, but has a lot of interesting things going on...recommended for patient types only.

Cloverfield (Matt Reeves, 2008)

6/10
I like the concept, I didn't like the fact that the movie was held together by an implausible, paperthin love story.

Star Trek (J.J. Abrams, 2009)

8/10
I don't know the first thing about the franchise but the movie was a blast. One of those "perfect summer blockbusters".

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Nicholas Stoller, 2008)

7/10
I was expecting a bit more, but it was a sweet movie with a strong performance by Jason Segal and Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd etc providing essentially what's expected of them. It felt overly long but then again we were watching the extended cut so I guess that's to be expected.

National Lampoon's Van Wilder (Walt Becker, 2002)

2/10
There were a couple of funny bits (I had to laugh at the eclair scene, come on) but for the most part it was just bad. And surprisingly racist, or at the least aggressively stereotypical. Ryan Reynolds was like a fourth-rate Jim Carrey circa Ace Ventura and the plot was just completely absurd. And really, Tara Reid as the "it girl"?
